Application of Attachment Theory Discussion Group
Attachment and artificial intelligence
Join Dr Nicolas Lorenzini for a thought-provoking discussion exploring the intersection of attachment and artificial intelligence, examining how our early relational experiences may shape the way we connect with, respond to, and are impacted by AI in our lives.
As AI transitions from a functional tool to a relational "partner," clients are increasingly forming synthetic bonds with digital entities like ChatGPT and Replika. Drawing on Dr. Brandon Lipin’s research, we will examine how AI fulfills functions of a safe haven and secure base while exploring psychopathological risks like psychological dependency and the amplification of delusions ("AI psychosis"). We will introduce the Synthetic Attachment Risk and Reactivity Scale (SARRS) as a tool for clinicians to assess these novel relational patterns and their impact on traditional human intimacy.
