About Christian Herreman
Christian Herreman is a clinical psychologist and psychoanalyst whose work brings together private clinical practice, attachment theory and psychosocial approaches.
Across his career, Christian has combined private practice with psychosocial interventions in Mexico and France, working with individuals, families and professionals supporting people in complex and vulnerable circumstances.
Attachment theory has provided an important integrative framework within his work, enabling him to bring together complementary perspectives on the human mind, relationships and psychological development.
Christian developed the Triple Stance Framework (TSF), an accessible intervention model designed to support frontline professionals working with vulnerable populations and help prevent professional burnout.
His current work also incorporates George Downing’s Video Intervention Therapy (VIT) in supporting families and the professionals who work alongside them.
Christian is a member of the Movement, Mind, and Meaning Research Group and contributes to the International Attachment Network’s writing and professional community.

Christian Herreman’s work draws on attachment theory alongside psychoanalytic, systemic and psychosocial perspectives to understand people within the relationships and wider contexts that shape their lives.
His approach reflects an interest in moving beyond explanations that locate psychological difficulties solely within the individual. Attachment theory offers a relational framework for considering how experiences of care, safety, communication and connection interact with individual development and the wider systems in which people live.
This interest also informs Christian’s exploration of the connections between John Bowlby and Gregory Bateson. Both thinkers were influenced by developments in systems theory and cybernetics and contributed, in different ways, to understanding behaviour as part of dynamic relational systems.

The Triple Stance Framework & Professional Practice
Christian developed the Triple Stance Framework (TSF) as an accessible approach for professionals working with people in vulnerable and complex circumstances.
The framework encourages practitioners to consider three interconnected perspectives: the experience of the person they are supporting, their own responses as a professional, and the wider relational and organisational context in which the work takes place.
This way of thinking reflects Christian’s broader interest in attachment-informed and psychosocial practice, recognising that effective support depends not only on understanding the individual, but also on attending to relationships, professional experience and the systems surrounding them.
An important aspect of Christian’s work has been supporting frontline professionals and considering how reflective, relational approaches can help sustain practitioners working in emotionally demanding environments.
