The Wider Community

Creating space for conversation, curiosity and connection

Understanding Ourselves Through Our Relationships

Have you ever wondered why your closest relationships can sometimes feel so complicated? Why certain conversations with a partner, friend or family member bring up strong emotions, or why a comment from your line manager can affect you more deeply than you expected?

Perhaps you find yourself repeating familiar patterns in relationships, or simply want to understand why we connect, disconnect and sometimes struggle to find our way back to one another.

Attachment theory offers a way of exploring these questions.

At the International Attachment Network, we believe these conversations belong beyond the consulting room, classroom or conference. Our Wider Community is a welcoming space to explore attachment, relationships and what it means to be human.

You don't need to be an attachment expert. You just need to be curious..

What we offer

  • "Although the possibility of emotional trauma is ever present, so, too, is the possibility of forming bonds of deep emotional attunement within which devastating emotional pain can be held, rendered more tolerable, and, one hopes, eventually integrated. Our existential kinship-in-the-same-darkness is the condition for the possibility both of the profound contexuality of emotional trauma and of the mutative power of human understanding."

    Stolorow (2011)

At the International Attachment Network, we believe that understanding ourselves and our relationships is a lifelong journey, and everyone is welcome to be part of that conversation.

For some, an interest in attachment begins through therapy, raising questions and insights that continue long after therapy ends. For others, it grows through family life, friendships, caring for others or simply a curiosity about human connection.

Whether you choose to become an IAN member or join one of our Connection Cafés, in person or online, you are warmly invited into a community where you can continue exploring attachment, discovering new perspectives and connecting with others.

Our Connection Cafés are not therapy or a substitute for therapeutic support. They offer a welcoming space for conversation, learning and reflection, with no expectation to share personal experiences. You are free to contribute, ask questions or simply listen.
