In this lecture Nicola Jones considers the value of identifying a couple’s care-seeking (attachment system) and caregiving dynamics and how this interacts with the sexual, intimacy, interest sharing and exploratory aspects of their relationship and their lives. She discusses the usefulness of identifying both the broad categories of adult attachment styles and the unique attachment history and internal working model of each partner to elucidate and evaluate couples’ presenting problems, and she demonstrates the value of discerning the presence or absence of fear and safety and of interest sharing and exploration in the couple relationship with reference to some neuroscientific models.
